Elevating the voices of the Korean American Community with The Council of Korean Americans
The Council of Korean Americans is a nonprofit organization that advocates for and elevates the voices of the Korean American community. CKA focuses on driving civic engagement, influencing public policy, and strengthening the voice of Korean Americans across the U.S. Through programs, events, and initiatives, CKA works to raise awareness and support for the community’s contributions to the nation.
Problem 😵💫
Key issues included:
Social media posts lacked consistency and didn’t engage a wide audience.
Email campaign reach was dwindling, with low open rates and engagement.
Lack of CTAs to drive traffic to the website or encourage participation.
Social media and email efforts were not aligned with the overall marketing strategy.
As the Council of Korean Americans (CKA) grew in influence and worked to elevate Korean American voices, their social media and email marketing didn’t fully reflect this progress. The content was irregular and lacked a cohesive strategy, which limited its ability to engage a wider audience beyond the core members. Although CKA had social media and email platforms, there was an opportunity to better align these efforts with their mission and goals. Engagement could have been higher, and the communication could have better reached individuals who were not yet familiar with CKA’s work.
Approach 💡
I developed a comprehensive marketing strategy that would not only elevate CKA’s current social media and email efforts but also create a sustainable framework moving forward. My approach included:
Content Creation & Strategy
I created new content series, such as K-Culture Spotting and member highlights, to engage a broader audience and showcase the influence of Korean Americans. These series empowered CKA members to share content, further expanding CKA’s reach.
Streamlined Processes
I simplified workflows, such as developing a Google Form to collect member highlights for the newsletter and setting up calendars for social media and email campaigns.
Maximizing Existing Content
I helped CKA better utilize existing content. For example, the 2023 Survey Report campaign, which included a data analysis from Harvard’s Taeku Lee, was repurposed into an automated email campaign and a social media series, driving engagement and encouraging sign-ups for lead generation.
Cross-Platform Marketing Integration
I aligned social media and email marketing efforts, ensuring that content could be reused across both channels, while also incorporating strategic CTAs to drive traffic to the CKA website, encourage participation, and grow the newsletter subscriber base.
Thoughtful Social Media Assets
I worked closely with the graphic design team to rework email, website, and video assets to ensure that social media graphics were dynamic and optimized for engagement.

"Emmalee’s work was exactly what CKA needed at a pivotal time. She completely transformed our social media and email marketing, giving us a consistent strategy and better processes to engage both our current community and potential supporters. The results were immediate—our engagement grew, and our messaging aligned with our mission."
